I’m a believer. But what my pastor said to me last week applies to life whether you are like me and believe God has a plan for your life or are more of a universalist or just someone who believes life is up to the fates.
God can’t steer a parked car.
Now, you can swap out God for whatever you want and it’s still true. If you are sitting and waiting for something to happen, nothing is going to happen.
You need to be moving towards something. Too many people I talk to are ‘thinking about’ doing something or ‘one day i want to’ do something. The only thing preventing you from starting is you. It’s not money. It’s not time. Those are excuses that prevent you from getting going. Because writing out a business plan is free on Google Docs. Meeting someone for coffee that works in an industry you’d like to be a part of is 30 minutes. Writing a blog on Medium is free. Taking a class to learn a skill you need is cheap at Udemy or Skill Pop or free on You Tube.
If you are waiting for the perfect time, understand that there is no perfect time.
If you are waiting for the right opportunity to just show up, it’s not coming while you sit in your cube staring out the window.
Whatever it is you are after, start moving towards it. When you move towards it and talk about it and visualize it with others it comes to life. And doors open. Opportunities arise. Movement creates more movement.
Resolve to pull away from the curb.
