“Better safe than sorry”
We all say this one. It works for our kids, our money, our jobs, the speed limit and whether or not we should bring a gift in the car just in case everyone else brings a hostess gift.
But is it better to be safe than sorry?
Checking your parachute before you skydive? Yes.
But if we play everything by this mantra, we never try anything new.
It’s safer to stay in that job. Safer to not ask that person to lunch. Safer to keep your kids indoors and under your watchful eye at all times.
But what gets missed?
What opportunities don’t you pursue or lessons go unlearned if we shelter ourselves from what might not be ‘safe’?
What exactly is ‘safe’ really? A place for our monkey brain bent on survival to feel comfortable with the familiar.
So check the parachute, but otherwise - play with the possibility of being sorry rather than always being safe.
